Kevlar Gloves for Door Security Staff – “cowardly, unnecessary and illegal”?
A little while back,we received an email asking for our views on the use of Kevlar-knuckled gloves by door security staff. We think it raised some interesting and timely issues for security personnel, and we’d like to share the discussion. With a bit of paraphrasing, here’s the email, and the detailed response from our own Sandra Williams. The question I’ve just had a debate about the use of gloves with Kevlar knuckles whilst working as a Door Supervisor. Opinions were been thrown around about their use being cowardly, illegal, unnecessary or going against the SIA rules of conduct etc. But there were also other opinions about how great they are. A search online doesn’t really shed any light on the…

Tourniquet training – necessary for first-aiders?
IBA UK is now offering advanced first aid courses in the use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for those in the security industry and workers in high-risk industries. In this post, we’ll look at the controversy over tourniquet use, and why we think it remains an indispensible procedure. To tourniquet or not to tourniquet? We’ve all seen tourniquets at the movies. The hero tears off his shirt and ties a makeshift tourniquet round the leg of his badly-injured buddy. The reality is a bit more complex than that. The use of emergency tourniquets is one of the more controversial areas in first aid. The problem is that using a tourniquet is a powerful intervention that can have all sorts of…
IBA UK all set to deliver WRAP3 training
This week, IBA UK personnel received their Home Office registration numbers for delivering WRAP3 (Working to Raise Awareness of Prevent) training. It also aims to create resilience in young people to radicalisation, by promoting fundamental British values and enabling them to challenge extremist views. Since September 2015, the Prevent duty has been incorporated into Ofsted’s revised common…
