Highfield Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry SIA Top-up Training
The SIA has changed the qualifications needed for an SIA licence. This follows a review
of the licence-linked qualifications.
The SIA has developed top-up training to make sure current Door Supervisor and
Security Guarding licence holders have the same basic skills and knowledge as new
entrants achieving the updated qualifications.
From October 2021, door supervisors and security guards will need to complete top-up
training before they renew their licence.

Qualification
Highfield Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry (RQF)
This qualification consists of four units, which learners must complete successfully in order to achieve the qualification, they are:
- Unit 1 – Principles of working in the private security industry
- Unit 2 – Principles of working as a door supervisor in the private security industry
- Unit 3 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry
- Unit 4 – Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry
Entrance requirements
Security operatives are likely in the course of their work to be required to make calls to the emergency services, or for example communicate to resolve conflict. It is essential that security operatives can communicate effectively. It is assumed that all current SIA licence
holders wishing to renew will already have these skills but we will also check to ensure if you need any additional support on the course as it may be a long time since you previously undertook your SIA training or Upskilling.
Therefore:
- All learners must demonstrate a good grasp of the English language, as assessments are only available in this language. This may involve completing a short assessment prior to enrolment.
- This qualification is aimed at learners aged over 18, due to age restrictions on applying for an SIA licence.
- From the 1st April 2021 all learners must present with a Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification (or equivalent) before undertaking an SIA course in Security or Door Supervision, or Top-Up Training so please see information on pre-course e-learning and enrolment on the Emergency First Aid at Work course and dates on separate document.

Choose the Best
Unfortunately, there is a lot of poor quality door supervision training out there – from trainers that have very little experience or industry knowledge.
IBA UK were in the security business before the SIA was formed. We understand the door supervision business inside-out, from defusing conflict to the legal implications of physical intervention. We can train you and your staff to a high standard of professionalism. After our expert training, most of our trainees find the actual assessments straightforward, and our pass rate is high.
