The Offensive Weapons Act 2019 Just Came into Force. Here’s What You Need to Know.

If you’ve got a flick knife, shuriken star, or telescopic truncheon — or around a dozen other types of weapons —tucked away in your house, you’re now breaking the law. On July 14th, the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 came into force, introducing sweeping new changes to what weapons you can legally keep in your home. The list of weapons now prohibited is set out in full in this graphic from the NPCC’s guidance page Previously, the Criminal Justice Act (1988) had made it illegal to carry these weapons in public. However, the new Act extends that to private premises. Police Chiefs comment that the measures are essential for controlling knife crime, especially amongst the young. Kevlar Gloves for Door Security Staff – “cowardly, unnecessary and illegal”?

A little while back,we received an email asking for our views on the use of Kevlar-knuckled gloves by door security staff. We think it raised some interesting and timely issues for security personnel, and we’d like to share the discussion. With a bit of paraphrasing, here’s the email, and the detailed response from our own Sandra Williams. The question I’ve just had a debate about the use of gloves with Kevlar knuckles whilst working as a Door Supervisor. Opinions were been thrown around about their use being cowardly, illegal, unnecessary or going against the SIA rules of conduct etc. But there were also other opinions about how great they are. IBA UK at the Minety Music Festival, 29th June to 1st July

IBA UK is delighted to be providing security services for the Minety Music Festival. The three-day not-for-profit event is organised entirely by volunteers. This year, the funds raised will support Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Combat Stress and Naomi House & Jacksplace Hospice. Funds will also secure future charity fundraising events. The event will take place in the village of Minety, nestling in the Cotswolds between Swindon and Malmesbury from Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July. IBA UK’s Involvement IBA provided services for the inaugural 2017 Minety Festival and we’re delighted to be returning this year.
