As you will appreciate, Armed Forces Day is fast coming up on us and this year in Swindon the committee hopes to put on a fun exciting day, open to the public. Swindon Council funding has been very slim to say the least in previous years, so it’s been left to the hard-working committee to try and fund it themselves. In this time of austerity this isn’t easy. Last year, in fact, we couldn’t get the funding – so sadly a great town like Swindon was one of the few who didn’t have an official Armed Forces Day.
One of our friends, Tim Stacey, has been approached to see if he can organize the security for the day. As an ex-serviceman, he is quite willing to do that – including the risk assessments and work on the day for free. This is his thank you to the forces. However folks, here is the catch. He needs another 10 SIA security staff to work with him to ensure the event is in line with the insurance purposes. At present there are not the funds to pay for Security and he (and us) would hate to think the event would have to be cancelled because we couldn’t find 10 Security staff to assist on the day.
Here are the details:
- Date Saturday 27th June
- Timings on Duty for 9am for set up of stalls
- Open to public 11am – 5pm
- 5pm – 7 pm stalls etc. taken down
So we are effectively talking a 10 hour shift. He is actively trying to source funds and if he does so volunteers will get some money, but at this stage it can’t be guaranteed .
If you can help, please email Tim at stacey3yn@btinternet.com or ring him on 07467146598.
Big thanks.
